Travel News

Who can believe we are already 4 months into 2017, have said "Toodle-pip" to Winter and are speeding through our Spring events faster than Dom’s Dodge Ice Charger in Fast & Furious!
Last month was extremely eventful for Coventry with two very different shows, IntralogisteX and Bridges 2017, both took place at the Ricoh Arena. We have already taken hotel bookings for these events next year!
15 minutes from Coventry (maybe 5 minutes in a Dodge Ice Charger?), just up the M6, Birmingham’s NEC hosted the biggest homebuilding and renovating event in the UK, the National Homebuilding & Renovating Show. This popular annual exhibition has a huge 40,000 visitors and 400 exhibitors.
Sign & Digital opened their doors at The NEC last month with over 180 leading suppliers showcasing the latest products and services for the sign making, display solutions and digital printing sectors. The event is set to take place again in 2018.
Next week, The Academies Show takes place at ExCeL London. This free to attend, one day event on 26 April, has 100’s of speakers and aims to help schools and academies to overcome challenges, improve standards and deliver better outcomes.
Installer2017 is back in May! This national heating and plumbing show is scheduled once again at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. The focus of Installer2017 is to let installers get hands-on with the latest products – to touch them, feel them and use them. A part of the show is InstallerINVENT, this gives the industry’s inventors the chance to showcase their products to their target audience.
May sees the return of Railtex, the largest rail exhibition in the UK for over 20 years! Its role is to facilitate trade, provide unique networking opportunities and educational sessions – over three days under one roof at the NEC in Birmingham. Railtex attracts international visitors and exhibitors as well as industry leading keynote speakers – all of which provide the ideal platform for the industry to come together and do business.
Scottish visitors will be making their way to the Homebuilding & Renovating Show at the SECC, Glasgow. The Scottish Homebuilding & Renovating Show, taking place at the end of May, is the go-to exhibition for self-builders and renovators.
At the end of May, the NEC in Birmingham is the hosting venue for edieLIVE, with hundreds of exhibitors and expert-led free seminars to attend, it is the only event for sustainability and environment professionals to pinpoint innovation, source new suppliers and learn from peers. Co-located is Utility Week Live, at this event, visitors can explore the innovations and technologies that are transforming utilities and meet the people who are driving this change.
Over the Spring Bank Holiday, Birmingham will be inundated with visitors attending The Vaper Expo UK at The NEC. Winner of Vapouround Magazine’s ‘Best Trade Show 2016’, the event is set to be the biggest vaping event in Europe, with companies from all over the world exhibiting at the show.

Now that we’re rested after the festive season and back in the swing of work, it’s time to look at what exciting events are on our calendar in January & February.
I personally love to book my summer holiday in January. It’s such a dreary month and, following the hype in December, it offers the promise of sunshine, relaxation and precious family time. The Telegraph Cruise & Travel Show organisers obviously know that’s what we’re all doing, hence their show takes place at London ExCeL this weekend (13-15 January).
If you are in the furniture trade, you will no doubt be aware of The January Furniture Show. The event is held annually at Birmingham’s NEC and draws exhibitors and visitors from worldwide locations. Whether you’re visiting the show as a buyer or just looking for that perfect armchair for your living room, it’s sure to be as busy and resourceful as ever.
Perhaps looking for furniture is a little premature for you? Looking at self building? Build It Live open their first show of the year, at a new venue in the South East of England, the Kent Event Centre in Maidstone. The show then moves up the country to Manchester’s very hip Event City. Build it Live events are dedicated to Self Building, Extending & Renovating, offering visitors access to exhibitors, workshops, seminars and experts.
Maybe a Valentine’s weekend trip with a difference is on the cards? The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Camping Show share ‘tents’ with several other fascinating events organised by The Telegraph, namely, Oceans Science Festival, The London Bike Show and the Triathlon Show. These shows are taking place at ExCeL 16-19 February.
If you work in the Business Travel sector, Olympia London is the place to network at the end of February. The Business Travel Show & Travel Technology Europe are extremely popular events within the travel industry. See you there!

Busy! Busy! Busy!

What a summer! We’re extremely proud of Great Britain’s achievements at the Rio Olympics 2016. And, what’s more, we have actually had a Rio summer back in old blighty - as this blog is written it’s 28C in our office at 9.00pm!
There’s certainly no time for taking a break this Autumn (except during half term… maybe?), not for us busy bees at HCC. This Autumn sees the return of some extremely popular events, and boy have we have been working hard to provide excellent hotel rates for exhibitors and visitors of the shows.
The season kicks off at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, host to one of our most recent additions, Lockex. This is a new event specifically designed around Locksmiths and Auto Locksmiths. The doors are unlocked 16-18 September 2016, visitors are promised the opportunity to experience products and services from industry suppliers throughout the event. Key experts from the Locksmith industry will be delivering free seminars and presentations over the 3 days with many workshops planned throughout.
We’re heading off to London’s ExCeL centre in Docklands for our next big event, The Homebuilding & Renovating Show. This well established and popular show draws large attendance numbers each year, and has a fantastic core of exhibiting companies that provide knowledge and experience to visitors. This event is well worth a visit!
The Autumn festival of choice must be the Festival of Marketing at the ‘bang on trend’ Tobacco Dock in London. With an impressive headline including Steve Wozniak Co-founder Apple Computers Inc., Martin Glenn CEO The FA and Katie Price Businesswoman, TV Personality, Author, Model and Mother - this is one Fest not to be missed!

How will Brexit affect us?

The last month has seen a historic moment following Britains referendum vote to leave the European Union.

What we all want to know is how will this affect me, my family, our country and our economy in the years to come.

With UK Hotels being voted the second best in the world it will be interesting to see what impact Brexit will take on the hospitality and tourism industry.

Hotels in Kent are seeing a surge of bookings following the results of the referendum and some industry leaders have stated that tourism and leisure can continue to grow under Brexit. Talks of VAT on accommodation and attractions being cut or abolished is also very positive for industry growth.

UK visitor numbers could increase with favourable exchange rates making Britain even more attractive to foreign travellers.

We all have to wait and see, but we're in agreement with Lord Hague - the hospitality industry does need to speak up and make sure our voice is heard during this uncertain period.

Listening to our customers has brought about some significant changes to our business.

Our new website has been redesigned based on the feedback that we received from our customers. Event Organisers wanted us to provide a facility that utilised the latest technology and moved away from static information. Exhibitors wanted to be able to book various nights (e.g. 1 room for 1 night and 1 room for 2 nights) without having to submit several forms.

"We want booking hotels to be an interactive experience for our exhibitors" Event Organiser

So... here we are! We're not quite virtual reality yet, but we have created webpages that provide our customers with the information they need, in the modern format that we are all accustomed to. And, with everyone leading such busy lives, we have made it possible for our customers to book online, at a time that is convenient, with instant hotel reservations being received by email.

The project is challenging, exciting and rewarding. We use the word 'is' because our website design is ongoing, it's the tip of the iceberg! We're comitted to embracing changes that benefit our customers. We'd love to hear your feedback!
